Support and Bereavement Services

Avera McKennan Hospice offers a variety of bereavement services to ease this transition in life for 13 months following the death of a loved one. The Bereavement Coordinator is available for individual counseling sessions which are scheduled by appointment. There is no charge for bereavement services.

Individual Counseling

The Bereavement Coordinator is available for individual counseling sessions which are scheduled by appointment. Referrals to community agencies are made when necessary.

Mailings

Informational and support resources on bereavement are mailed to you on a monthly basis for one year.

Memorial Services

Hospice has two Memorial Services a year for families who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

Volunteer Services

Trained bereavement volunteers are available to listen, offer emotional support, or provide practical assistance. Volunteers are assigned to families as requested.

Lending Library

Avera McKennan Hospice & Palliative Care offers an extensive collection of books, articles and magazines, covering many subjects of interest to grieving persons.

Support Groups for all ages

Avera McKennan Hospice & Palliative Care offers seven-week Bereavement Support Groups, bringing together individuals who are experiencing similar pain. Notification of time and dates will be mailed to you. These sessions are held continuously throughout the year so you may choose a time when you are ready to attend.

Regional Support Groups

Saying good bye is never easy. Without exception, it means pain. Sharing your feelings with others who are experiencing similar pain can help you survive grief and find renewed meaning in your life.

Flandreau offers a four-week grief support group at United Methodist Church of Flandreau. To pre-register, please call (605) 997-3779.

Madison also provides a four-week grief support group the Madison Community Hospital in the Hospital Activity Room. To pre-register, please call (605) 256-8640.
